Hi hello! My name is Abi and I own Perrico Gardens, a garden design studio in Pittsburgh, PA. If you’re joining this newsletter as a past client - thank you so much for joining! I hope to help you continue on your gardening journey. If you’re completely new here - welcome!
A little about me:
I grew up and currently live in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, PA, and deal with deer, slopes, and clay soil in my garden, just like many of you.
I started my garden design company, Perrico Gardens, to help people design gardens, not just landscaping.
I’m starting this newsletter to help support any gardeners in our local area with information that is specific to our area. Northeast US or even Pennsylvania gardening guides hold a tremendous amount of information, but they don’t always account for the intricacies of our area’s weather and growing conditions, so I’d like to bridge that gap here. For more details about this newsletter - click here.
My gardening knowledge comes from an array of educational sources: my PLNA horticulture certification, and gardening/design classes at Phipps Conservatory and New York Botanic Garden, but mostly from the best source of education: trial and error in my own garden.
My favorite gardening style is a cottage garden with purple, pink, and yellow blooms. However, the reality of my garden is a bit more eclectic because I use my yard as a testing ground for plants so I can have a wider breadth of plant knowledge for my clients.
I dabble in planting annuals and vegetable gardening each year, but my bread and butter is gardening with trees, shrubs, and perennials.
This newsletter will be a place for beginners and experienced gardeners alike to share their knowledge & gardening experiences. I’m sure you’ll see plenty of my garden over the growing season and I hope to get to know some of your gardens as well!
